Digestive System Making your Days Dreary?

Woman Sips Tea

Our digestive system is more than simply a means of breaking down foods and absorbing nutrients (although that’s pretty impressive in itself).

It’s also key to making sure your immune system does its job by batting off viruses and bad bacteria. Not only that, but it can play a part in our mental health (it’s commonly referred to as our ‘second brain’). In fact, a well-functioning digestive system is crucial to our overall physical well-being.

You won’t be surprised to learn then that a total of eight of the body’s major organs are involved when it comes to our digestive systems. That’s the mouth, throat, oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and anus. Not only that, but it even has it is own nervous system.

It’s no wonder there are so many different digestive difficulties we can experience. When this important part of our anatomy does start to go wrong it’s no joke. The symptoms can prove both painful and embarrassing. Constipation, bloating, diarrhoea, flatulence, heartburn and irritable bowel syndrome – most of us have experienced them at one time or another. And, when we do, thankfully there are plenty of natural, herbal remedies we can use to help us cope.

Mug & Flowers

At NutraTea we offer three remedies specifically targeted to help with particular digestive issues:

The herbs involved in these teas have impressive properties and have been used for centuries by our ancestors. Today we have more sophisticated means of extraction, but the results are similar. And because these plant-based remedies are natural, there are no nasty side-effects either.

NutraCleanse – combat spasms and constipation

Key components of our NutraCleanse tea are milk thistle (20%) and artichoke (15%). Great for combatting bloating after a meal, milk thistle stimulates our digestive juices, such as stomach acid and bile, to start breaking down foods. Artichoke is a natural laxative (one medium artichoke contains seven grams of fibre) so great for constipation. At the same time, it can also help with stomach spasms and indigestion.

NutraCleanse also contains Dandelion Root which is, of course, a classic diuretic. Other herbs such as ginger, fennel and burdock root have laxative properties. Star Anise has anti-spasmodic properties and which is why it’s often used to help combat pain in the large intestine caused by Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

Detox Tea

NutraReflux – helping prevent heartburn and bloating

Another herb commonly used by those suffering from IBS is peppermint. That’s because it can help the muscle in the bowel wall to relax, reducing stomach cramps and bloating. Peppermint is the main ingredient in our NutraReflux tea. Another big component in this tea is liquorice. Again, this also helps to sooth the stomach lining and can help with constipation. Other herbs in this tea, such as Shatavari Root (a member of the asparagus family) and Slippery Elm promote further benefits. The former is a diuretic which can also help with diarrhea, while the latter is often used to treat acid reflux, thanks to it is ability to soothe inflamed tissue in the gastrointestinal tract.

Lemongrass and Ginger Tea – kickstart your digestion

You can reach for a cup of our third digestive tea – Lemongrass & Ginger – if you have stomach cramps or bloating. Both herbs are excellent for a sluggish digestive system since they can stimulate your digestive enzymes into getting on with the job of breaking down food. Lemongrass is also a natural diuretic and ginger can also help with feelings of nausea.

In conclusion then, if digestive difficulties are a common feature of your everyday life or even just interrupt things now and again, it’s certainly worth sampling a specially-adapted digestive tea to try and find some relief.
