Raspberry Leaf Tea for Pregnancy
Often referred to as “the woman’s herb”, red raspberry leaf tea is especially popular during pregnancy. An astringent herb, it’s best-known for its ability to tone and strengthen the uterus, helping your body prepare for birth.
The benefits of red raspberry tea for pregnancy come from a compound called fragarine, which is responsible for its muscle-tightening powers. The benefits of fragarine don’t stop at pregnancy, however – red raspberry leaf tea is also a popular remedy for menstrual cramps.
Although often favoured by women in the second and third trimester, raspberry leaf tea is also great during the first trimester, as many people find it helps to combat nausea and vomiting. In this tea blend, we’ve combined it with peppermint, another herb that is known to soothe the stomach and ease morning sickness.
Raspberry Leaf Tea for Labour
One of the reasons that raspberry leaf tea is so popular with pregnant women is its benefits during labour and childbirth. It is thought to shorten labour, as well as reducing the pain of contractions.
There’s also evidence to suggest that drinking raspberry leaf tea regularly during pregnancy might make for a smoother delivery. Various studies have found a link between drinking this tea and a reduced likelihood of certain interventions during birth, such as the use of forceps.
Raspberry leaf tea continues to be beneficial after birth too. By toning and tightening the muscles of the uterus, it may prevent excessive bleeding and help with recovery. It’s also thought to be a galactagogue, which means it can boost breast milk production.
